7/9/2010 | BLJC team raises $51K for children’s charity during annual golf tourney

BLJC team members in Quebec raised $51,500 for the President’s Choice Children’s Charity during the group’s ninth annual golf tournament and dinner June 28.

“This is the biggest amount that (BLJC) has ever raised for the foundation,” says regional director Alain Chaput, the golf committee’s president, adding the goal was to raise $50,000.

Chaput adds that the event, which saw 144 people participate, including BLJC managers, senior managers and customers, surpassed last year’s total by $14,000.

With several charitable golf tournaments held each summer there can be competition when attracting sponsors to the event, says Chaput.

However, thanks to the nine-month effort put forth by committee members, the tournament was once again a success.

“Our vendors and sponsors are coming back year after year,” says Chaput.

“The people who worked on it . . . are extremely proud of the success that the event had, and we have had several comments from the foundation, our clients and our vendors.”

Facility manager Pierre Harnois, who serves as the golf committee’s vice-president, notes that he has seen first-hand the benefits children reap from President’s Choice Children’s Charity.

“My sister has two children who have a very rare disease and both of them are in wheelchairs. The foundation helped them by offering an adapted vehicle,” explains Harnois.

“It’s with that real tangible result that we found all the motivation and the powers to continue year after year.”

Harnois adds that the success of the golf tournament is reflective of the strong partnership BLJC and Loblaw have.

“We should not forget the good relationship between Loblaw and BLJC (for) trying to do a bit more to help the children in the community,” he says.

The tournament was held at Montreal’s Club de Golf Le Mirage, which is owned by pop superstar Céline Dion and her husband, René Angelil.
