News & Announcements6/21/2010 | BLJC recognized by CaGBC for volunteer leadership BLJC’s Vice-President of Energy and Sustainability Edwin Lim has been recognized with the Volunteer Leadership award from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). The distinction was announced during CaGBC’s gala dinner and leadership awards presentation June 9. The event, held in conjunction with the council’s annual conference, recognizes industry leaders in eight categories including green-building education, lifetime achievement and others. “Lim has made an extremely valuable contribution to the CaGBC by taking a leadership role in acting as chair of the existing buildings in operations and maintenance (EBOM ) adaptation task force to facilitate a successful launch in 2009, and currently, by chairing the GREEN UP steering committee,” states the CaGBC selection committee. “Ed’s expertise has helped to guide these CaGBC efforts and has helped bring the right industry representatives to the table so that our programs achieve a high level of relevance in the marketplace.” BLJC president and CaGBC board member Gordon Hicks agrees that Lim is “very deserving” of the award. Most notably, Hicks says Lim has spent many of his personal hours leading the seminal task force to adapt the LEED EBOM from the United States. “His background and knowledge in building operations and energy conservation and sustainable operating practices were invaluable assets that contributed to the success of this initiative,” says Hicks. According to Lim, volunteering with the CaGBC is rewarding, as it grants him the opportunity to move the industry to greener and more sustainable practices. He says the recognition was a highlight, but deserves to be shared. “It was an honour being recognized in front of 750 of my peers, but humbling in recognizing that it was a team effort, both from the aspect of the members of the committees I chaired and the BLJC team that enabled me to volunteer in the first place,” he says. The accolade also underscores how BLJC is becoming increasingly recognized as a green building operations consultant in the marketplace, adds Lim. He points to BLJC’s involvement in both LEED EBOM and the Green Up Green Building Performance Measurement program as evidence of this, as well the company’s current involvement in LEED consulting for certification of more than 10 buildings coast to coast. |
