9/2/2010 | Colouring contest adds fun, family dynamic to BLJC

A colouring contest organized by the human resources consulting (HRC) team injected some fun into BLJC this summer.

It also heightened the sense of family amongst team members, says human resources consultant Caroline Bourbeau.

“What’s great about this contest is that we were able to combine our family and our work life,” Bourbeau tells Insights, noting the team was very excited to roll out this initiative.

For the contest, children of BLJC-WSI employees were invited to submit artwork about summer fun. The team received more than 60 creations.

“As mothers, we very much enjoyed reviewing the beautiful artwork of the BLJC family,” says Bourbeau. “It’s nice to see how proud the parents are of their children’s drawings.”

She adds that it was evident the children put a lot of thought and effort into the artwork, and each drawing was definitely special.

“A common theme was the beach. We can tell that’s where people love to go in the summer, and it was great to see the kids’ perception of a summer vacation,” she says, noting it was interesting to see that children illustrated safety features like bike helmets and sunscreen.

All participants and winners will receive a prize sent out to them in a few weeks.

In addition, the 12 selected winners from four age categories will be featured in a 2011 company calendar to be available for purchase in mid-November. Proceeds from the sale of the calendar will be donated to charity.

Bourbeau says the hope is that this initiative becomes an annual event.
