9/1/2010 | French LEED exams to be available in early 2011
The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) has announced that the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green associate and building, design and construction exams will be available in French in early 2011.
The GBCI is seeking French-speaking, subject matter experts to help translate the exams.
They are looking for volunteers fluent in both English and French, and with exposure to French in Europe and/or Canada.
“In this role, you will review recently translated exam content, ensuring the validity, quality and relevance of the new exams,” states an Aug. 31 press release.
“By participating, you will help secure your LEED professional credentials at the forefront of the marketplace within the francophone community — all while earning continuing education hours toward the maintenance of your credential.”
BLJC sustainability consultant Elliot Hickey says he believes offering the exams in French will likely interest several BLJC team members.
"With more than 75 employees (having) LEED (green associate or accredited professional certification), the French examination can only help to increase this number and solidify the position of BLJC as a (sustainability leader)," says Hickey.
BLJC has been offering the LEED green associate course to staff since 2009, with director of sustainability Michael Wymant providing the instruction.
To date, more than 100 staff members have taken the course, and about 10 have completed the exam and are now certified as LEED green associates.
More LEED green associate classes are to be offered in early fall by Wymant. Classes for the LEED accredited professional (AP) with specialty may also be provided, depending on interest. About 60 BLJC team members have received the LEED AP certification.
With LEED emerging as “the green standard of sustainability in buildings,” Wymant says the free courses offered by BLJC’s leadership and the level of team members’ interest in pursuing accreditation demonstrates a respect for and desire to understand the process and offer clients this expertise.
It positions BLJC to be a leader in facility management.
“It’s exciting, it’s unique, it’s one of the reasons I came to work for BLJC. It’s forward thinking — this is where the market is going and we’re leading the charge,” Wymant earlier told BLJC Insights.
