Integrity anchors many BLJC team members
August 19, 2010
Integrity is a standard by which many BLJC team members measure themselves.
Staff interviewed for an Insights series on the company’s recently announced set of five values have frequently cited integrity as one that resonates because of the depth of its reach.
Craig Cousins, regional director on the TELUS account, says integrity is a must to live most of the other values.
It is, in fact, the source from which most of the other values flow, he says.
“People who have integrity in the workplace generally have good customer satisfaction, good employee engagement and sustainability,” Cousins says.
Rocco Longhi, national security manager on the CIBC account, believes it’s important that the values of the individual and company align in order to be an effective team member. He says all of BLJC’s values are important because they interrelate, but he identifies most with integrity because it is all encompassing.
“You have to have integrity in everything that you do. There has to be honesty, loyalty, professionalism. It all falls under that one banner,” he says.
“I think integrity is one of the most important things an individual can have. It’s all we carry,” Longhi adds.
Laraine Bowen, a BLJC Workplace Solutions Inc. manager, says integrity instils pride.
“If you have integrity and you are expected to work like that in your day-to-day decision making, it makes you feel good,” she says.
This value is made up of some key components that are practised at BLJC.
Whether working with team members or directly with clients, environmental officer Miranda Goldberg says everyone is very respectful of each other and flexibility is shown to find the right solutions.
Joining BLJC three months ago was like entering a different world for Goldberg. She says she worked previously in an industry where honesty, fairness and respect were not at the forefront and even sacrificed.
“Integrity actually means something here, it’s not just a word. You can see it, you can show it,” she says.
Cousins says team members possess different skills, abilities and personalities but they uphold elements of integrity which are being honest, respecting one another and meaning and backing what they say.
Integrity is valued throughout the company. For example, Cousins says, he knows he can contact senior management whenever necessary because “they’ve told us we’re here for you.”
BLJC’s reconfigured values, along with mission and vision, are critical to the future success of the company, president Gord Hicks has said.
